Everyone has heard of it, but defining classical art is not an easy task. We can draw its edges and recall its origins, but what describes classical art is undoubtedly the great names that developed the various canons of the style. Classicism is a characteristic of the French school of painting in the 17th century in response to the sumptuousness of the Baroque. The movement was inspired by the masters of the classical renaissance and became both a language and an image in the service of the absolute monarchy.
History of Classical Art
Classical art has its roots in Italy in the work of Annibal Carracci who, unlike Caravaggio, revived the classical tradition of the Renaissance. Desiring to return to a painting deprived of the futility of a mannerist episode, Carracci came back to the influences of antiquity and to the idealized conception of beauty, which was extended to the landscape genre. His style was studied by his pupils Guido Reni and Le Guercino, who were to use it in eclectic works, where they combined classical wisdom and the Baroque movement.
What is classical art?
The term classical is often used to refer to styles from the ancient Greek and Roman periods. However, this classical art was updated during the Renaissance with the Baroque and Neoclassical movements. And since all variations of these branches follow the principles of classical art, they still remain as forms of classicism. Classical Western art is based on human proportions and perspectives.
Classical art movements
A classical art movement or art trend is a group of artists and artworks with a common aesthetic. Consequently, there are many art movements, such as the international Gothic movement, which spread rapidly and was expressed in very similar forms in different European countries. The first phrase was also called the "first awakening", while the second phrase in the 16th century was called the "great awakening". Baroque art allows us to continue our painting journey. This movement is generally considered to be a revival of Catholicism. Rococo is actually a concept first discovered in 1730. Romanticism appeared in the revolutionary period at the end of the 18th century. It tried to explain the soul and inner ecstasy, torture and inexplicable things. Realism appeared in Britain and France with an antithetical style between classical and romanticism. The impressionist movement, which emerged at the end of the 19th century, is undoubtedly the best known and most admired movement. The Cubist movement began at the beginning of the 20th century and is a manifestation of the profound destruction associated with two geniuses, Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso.
